  1. The other day my husband said, “Hey did you see the letter Char wrote to the editor?”. Knowing Char I promptly got up and walked to the kitchen counter where the paper was laying, picked it up and read the letter to the editor below. I was struck by the fact that there is no place to look for the good stuff that happens in our community here on the south coast of Oregon. So, I decided to start a blog; and this is my first entry; I copied this out of The World News Paper online site:

On Saturday, my 15-year-old granddaughter and friend texted for permission to go for a walk. The friend wanted to share a beautiful place she had visited a long time ago. All she remembered was that it was near a motel with a questionable reputation. They asked an older woman nearby if she knew where this motel was. The woman checked her phone and told them it was in Coos Bay.

In a short time, a North Bend police officer was questioning the girls and calling for someone to pick them up. Obviously, the woman was concerned and cared enough to contact the police.

Thank you to the woman who handled the situation with thoughtfulness and kindness and the police for following through quickly and efficiently.

This provided our family another opportunity to set guidelines and talk about stranger danger. We must continually educate and remind our young people to be safe.
